Durgapur Union Parishad member in the clash of two sides in Kushtia. Mamun (38) was killed. This incident took place in Asannagar village of Ward number 7 of Goswami Durgapur Union Parishad of Sadar Upazila on Saturday morning.
The deceased Mamun is the son of former UP member Habil Uddin of the same ward. At least 12 people from both sides were injured in the incident. Apart from this, incidents of vandalism and looting have occurred.
According to the police and local sources, the UP member Mamun-Yahia group had been in conflict for a long time with the Wahab-Golap faction of that village. The two sides continued to clash over dominance. A few days ago, a person named Kalimullah from the Wahab side was seriously injured by the people of Mamun group. His condition is critical. Due to this, the two groups clashed again from Friday morning.
UP member Mamun was attacked on Saturday by the opposing party during the clashes. At that time, he was killed by cutting with a sharp weapon. There are marks of injury on his leg and waist with a sharp object. Apart from this, 10 to 12 people were sent to the hospital with injuries. Mamun's body has been sent to Kushtia General Hospital morgue for post-mortem. When the police went to the spot in the morning, two groups started pelting bricks at the police. Army team later reached the spot along with the police. Everyone is leaving the village for fear of attack and looting. The excitement is still going on.
Goswami Durgapur Union Parishad Chairman Laltu Rahman said, "It is not a political issue. There are people from all parties in the two groups. The conflict between the two sides over the dominance of that village has been going on for a long time. As a result of this, a member of my council was killed today in an attack by the opponent.
Inspector Rakibul Hasan of Islami University Police Station said that police have been deployed in the area. Police are on high alert to avoid further clashes. The body has been kept in the morgue for post-mortem. The murder case is under process at the police station.
