Teesta water is above danger level in Kurigram

Due to continuous rains and water coming down from upstream, the water level of Dharla, Dudhkumar and Brahmaputra rivers in Kurigram continues to rise. On the other hand, at Kaunia rail bridge point of Rangpur district, Teesta river has increased and is flowing 33 cm above the danger level. Gharialdanga, Vidyananda, Ulipur upazila Daldalia, Bajra, Thetrai, Gunaigach and part of Ramna Model Union of Chilmari upazila have been flooded. About 400 families in the pastures and lower areas of these unions, 159 hectares of plantations and seasonal crop fields along with rural unpaved roads have been submerged.

According to the Local Water Development Board department, the water of Dharla, Dudhkumar and Brahmaputra rivers has increased at various points, but it is flowing below the danger level. Rakibul Hasan, Executive Engineer of Kurigram Water Development Board said that there is a possibility of water decrease tomorrow.
Abdullah Al Mamun, Deputy Director of Kurigram Agriculture Department, said that 159 hectares of saplings, vegetables and other crops have been submerged in the Teesta river basin. If the water increases, its amount can increase further.
Rajarhat Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) and Kurigram District Commissioner called but they did not receive calls.
