Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 15 Burmese cows without owners in a raid in the Jumchhari area of Naikshongchhari upazila of Bandarban on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border. The estimated market value of the seized cows is about 2.5 million taka.
According to BGB sources, based on a secret tip-off, a special patrol team led by Lt. Col. SKM Kafil Uddin Kayes, commander of the Naikshongchhari Battalion (11 BGB), conducted a raid in the Jumchhari area on the border at around 3 am on Monday. At that time, 15 Burmese cows that had crossed the border without owners were seized.
Later, the cows were brought to the battalion headquarters and the auction process is under way. The BGB believes that such ownerless cattle may cross the border illegally and fall into the hands of smuggling gangs.
Naiksyangchhari Battalion Commander Lt. Col. SKM Kafil Uddin Kayes said, "Our operations are continuing to prevent smuggling, illegal infiltration and interstate crimes along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border. Ownerless cattle can be a threat to border security, so immediate action has been taken."
The BGB has called for increasing awareness among locals and strengthening border security in this incident.
