Barrister Kaiser Kamal, BNP nominated candidate for Netrokona-1 constituency and legal secretary of the central BNP, has built an 800-meter-long wooden bridge over Someshwari River on his own initiative to ease public suffering in Durgapur, Netrokona. The bridge was officially inaugurated on Saturday in the presence of students from various educational institutions.
Locals said that for a long time, due to the lack of a permanent bridge, the people of Shibganj-Durgapur area were facing extreme hardship in crossing the river. Considering this issue, Barrister Kaiser Kamal built this wooden bridge suitable for all types of vehicles including rickshaws, vans, motorcycles and private cars. This bridge, made of bamboo and wood at a cost of about 15 lakh taka, has now brought great relief to the local people.
Barrister Kaiser Kamal announced that a small toll will be charged for vehicles crossing the bridge and all the income from the toll will be spent on the development of local mosques, temples and various educational institutions. He also said that if elected, he will build a permanent and aesthetic bridge over the Someshwari River in return for the love of the people.
Mufti Maulana Abdur Rab led the recitation of the Holy Quran and prayers at the inauguration ceremony. Bridge Committee members Prabhat Saha, Pankaj Sangma, former Upazila BNP President and prominent educationist Advocate MA Jinnah, Kullagara Union Parishad Chairman and Upazila BNP General Secretary Abdul Awal, along with leaders and activists of municipal, upazila and union BNP and its affiliated organizations were present.
Student Ahmed Umar Tasbi said, "We had to suffer every day to go to school because there was no permanent bridge over the river. With the initiative of Barrister Kaiser Kamal Sir, now commuting is easy. We are grateful to him. Our only hope is that he will be elected as an MP and build a permanent bridge over the Someshwari River."
