A note written threatening to kill BNP leaders and activists has been recovered in Gangni upazila of Meherpur. The note, along with the slogan 'Joy Bangla' and the name of 'Jorpukur Awami League' as the threat maker, has spread extreme panic and anxiety in the area.
The note, which was first put up on the wall of a shop in Jorpukuria village of Gangni upazila, first came to the attention of locals on Friday (January 16) morning. It is believed that it was put up on the wall by unknown persons late on Thursday night.
The note directly threatened to kill seven local BNP leaders and activists, mentioning their names. The leaders and activists who faced the threat are - Hafizul Islam, Enamul, Mohibul, Sentu, Rafiqul, Mithun and Jico. The note stated that they would be 'exiled' as revenge for leaving the village.
When the news of Chirkut's rescue spread, tension and panic prevailed in the area. Locals demanded the immediate identification and arrest of those involved in the incident. A BNP worker, who did not want to be named, alleged that the threat was made out of political vendetta.
In this regard, Gangni Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Uttam Kumar Das said that the police are investigating the matter seriously. He said that legal action will be taken soon after identifying the threat makers.
