IU Holds Prayer for the Martyrs of Language Movement

On the occasion of International Mother Language Day and the immortal 21st February, Islamic University (IU) organized a Qur’an recitation and prayer ceremony to honor the martyrs of the Language Movement. The special prayer for the souls of the language martyrs was held on Friday (20 February) after Jumu’ah at the Central Mosque of the university.

The event was attended by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Nakeeb Mohammad Nasrullah, Acting Registrar Professor Dr. Monjurul Haque, Senior Professor Dr. Alinur Rahman, Student Advisor Professor Dr. Obaidul Islam, Proctor Professor Dr. Shaheenuzzaman, Provost Council President Professor Dr. Mohammad Jalal Uddin, and Director of IIER Professor Dr. Mostafizur Rahman, along with leaders and members of various student political organizations and students.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Nakeeb Mohammad Nasrullah stated that the immortal 21st February forms one of the key foundations of national consciousness. Through the sacrifices of the language martyrs, the Bengali nation found new direction in its struggle for rights and identity. He emphasized that preserving the dignity of the mother tongue is not only a matter of emotion but also a prerequisite for cultural existence and intellectual development.

He further highlighted that the university should be developed as a leading center for language, culture, and humanistic values, and urged everyone to work collectively toward this goal. Finally, he prayed for the forgiveness of the language martyrs and called upon all to commit themselves to the proper practice and preservation of the mother tongue.
