Professor Dr. Muhammad Nazrul Islam, a unique reflection of free thinking, courage and humanity

Although human life in this mortal world is temporary, some establish a permanent seat in the hearts of people through their work and ideals. One such luminary is Dr. Muhammad Nazrul Islam—who has established himself at a unique height through education, research, social responsibility and a steadfast stance in democratic consciousness.
This renowned teacher of the Mathematics Department of Jahangirnagar University has been teaching since 2002. In his long career, he has not been limited to the classroom; rather, he has worked tirelessly to instill free thinking, rational thinking and human values among students.
He was equally brilliant in his academic career. After securing first place in the first class in Mathematics from Jahangirnagar University, he pursued higher education in various renowned universities in Germany, Romania and Poland. From there, he obtained MSc and PhD degrees and enriched himself through international research and scholarships. His experience is making an important contribution to the country's higher education sector.
Along with expanding education, one of his goals is to work for the backward sections of the society. He is playing an important role in energizing the activities of Major General Mahmudul Hasan Adarsh Mahavidyalaya and Mirza Golam Hafiz Degree College. These initiatives of his are helping to increase the opportunities for higher education for poor and underprivileged students.
Beyond the boundaries of teaching, he is also known as a conscious citizen. He was vocal against injustice during various political crises and difficult times in the country. His active presence in the anti-discrimination movement and the demand for restoration of democracy has inspired students. His protest role against oppression of students has established him as a fearless voice.
According to his colleagues and students, he is an uncompromising, outspoken and truthful person. He has never deviated from his ideals due to personal interests or the temptation of power. Rather, he has distinguished himself by taking a firm stand for justice and truth.
However, due to this strong stance, he has had to face criticism and conspiracies at various times. Still, he did not give up; he remained steadfast in the path of truth and justice and remained steadfast in his ideals.
Although simple and unassuming in his personal life, he is very disciplined and responsible in his professional field. He considers the main goal of education to be to develop students into thoughtful and humane people, not just test-based knowledge.
He is equally active in research. He has significant work in operations research, number theory, calculus and statistics. He has also served as the supervisor of several PhD, MPhil and Masters research.
Currently, he is a member of the Senate of Jahangirnagar University, the Provost of Fazilatunnesa Hall and the Chairman of the Governing Body of various educational institutions.
Dr. Muhammad Nazrul Islam is an inspiration to a generation today, unwavering in education, research, social service and democratic values. According to those involved, his actions and ideals will guide future generations - that is now everyone's expectation.
