Brick paving is being laid by digging up a pitched road

The work of digging up a part of a pitched road in Kaliganj, Jhenaidah and laying brick paving has drawn sharp criticism and questions from the locals. Despite the fact that there is no major damage to the road in question, there is dissatisfaction in the area as to why such expensive work is being done in the name of renovation.
Work on laying two-layer brick paving is underway in some parts of the 800-meter-long Kaliganj-Ganna road under the Roads and Highways (RHHP) Department. The cost of this project has been estimated at around 88 lakh taka. A Jhenaidah-based contracting company is implementing the work.
It can be seen on the ground that bricks are being laid by digging up pitched roads in some parts of the road from Nimtala bus stand to Alaipur in the city. Locals complain that although there are minor holes in some parts of the road, most of it was suitable for movement. In this situation, they see the initiative of digging up the entire road and laying new bricks as an unnecessary expense.
Local businessmen and pedestrians said that the problem could have been solved by doing minor repairs or patchwork as needed. But instead of doing so, they allege that the entire paved road is being dug up and bricked, which is increasing public suffering and wasting government money.
In this regard, the contracting company said that they are doing the work specified as per the tender and all the conditions of the work are being followed. However, the concerned officials of the Roads and Highways Department said that this is part of the regular maintenance work. Some parts are being renovated as they were damaged due to the monsoon. They advised the locals to contact the higher authorities regarding their complaints.
Currently, the road renovation work is underway and the work may be completed within this week, according to the concerned authorities.
