Passenger bus sinks after losing control at Daulatdia ferry terminal

A bus of the 'SB Super Deluxe' transport company from Kushtia to Dhaka lost control and fell into the Padma River at Ferry Terminal No. 7 in Daulatdia on Friday morning (June 5). However, major loss of life was averted as there were no passengers on the bus at the time of the accident.

According to eyewitnesses and relevant sources, the bus suddenly lost control and fell into the river while preparing to board the ferry at the pontoon area of ​​the ferry terminal around 9:30 am. The relevant authorities have confirmed that the passengers had been disembarked earlier at the time of the accident.

Although the bus driver and assistant fell into the river in the accident, they were quickly rescued with the help of locals. They were later sent to the hospital in their injured condition. However, it is initially known that their injuries are not serious.

On receiving the information, the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority's (BIWTA) rescue ship 'Hamza' reached the spot and started rescue operations. Authorities said that work is still underway to rescue the bus that sank in the river.

It is worth noting that several accidents have occurred in the Daulatdia ferry ghat area before. On March 25, a tragic accident occurred in the same place when a passenger bus fell into the river while boarding a ferry. As a result, locals have demanded further strengthening of security measures in the ferry ghat area.
