Rony Islam, the co-general secretary of the newly formed committee of Savar Municipality Chhatra Dal, has protested against the use of his name and organizational position in various media outlets to publish news about the murder of Riya Moni in the Chayabithi area of Savar. In a status posted on his Facebook ID on Tuesday, he claimed that the post of co-general secretary of the newly formed committee of Savar Municipality Chhatra Dal belongs to him. However, the accused in the Riya Moni murder case is Rony Chowdhury, in whose name a case has been filed at Savar Police Station.
Rony Islam wrote in his status, “I am Rony Islam, the co-general secretary of the newly formed committee of Savar Municipality Chhatra Dal. The post in that committee is mine. Rony Chowdhury, in whose name a case has been filed at Savar Police Station, killed his wife. But respected journalists used my name and position in the news.”
He also said that whoever the culprit is, he should be given exemplary punishment. However, the publication of someone else's name and identity instead of the real accused has created confusion. Meanwhile, discussions have started on the issue in the local political arena and social media. Many believe that before publishing news about a sensitive crime, the identity and information of the accused should be verified more carefully so that an innocent person is not wrongly involved in the controversy.
It is worth noting that a case has been filed against Roni Chowdhury, the husband of a housewife, at Savar Police Station in the recent murder of a housewife in the Chayabithi area of Savar. Law enforcement agencies are continuing their investigation into the incident.
