After a long demand and wait, important progress has finally been made in the Dhaka-Manikganj rail connection. According to relevant sources, a policy decision has been taken to start a commuter train connecting Manikganj with the capital. After the news of this government initiative was published, there has been great enthusiasm among the common people, businessmen, students and employees across the district. Many are seeing it as a major milestone in the history of the district's communication system.
At a press conference held in the capital, Railway Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam said that in principle approval has already been given to start a Dhaka-Manikganj commuter train. Sources say that the matter gained importance at the highest levels of the government on the initiative of Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita. Later, discussions began on the matter in the Railway Ministry and it was decided to take the necessary process forward.
At present, Manikganj is outside the country's rail network, although it is very close to the capital. As a result, thousands of people have to travel to Dhaka every day, enduring traffic jams and long hours. It is expected that if the proposed commuter train is launched, workers, students and businessmen will be able to reach the capital in a short time and return on the same day. Those concerned believe that this will also reduce the population pressure on Dhaka to some extent.
According to the business community, if the rail connection is launched, it will be possible to transport agricultural products, dairy products and small-scale industrial products of Manikganj to different parts of the country quickly and at a low cost. At the same time, new investment, industrialization and employment opportunities will be created. Representatives of local civic organizations also believe that a long-standing public demand is moving towards implementation and it will play a positive role in the economic development of the district.
However, experts say that after the policy decision, the most important thing now is to quickly start feasibility studies, route determination and project formulation. According to them, if the Dhaka-Manikganj railway is implemented, the capital's connection with the southwestern region including Rajbari, Faridpur, Kushtia and Pabna will be strengthened in the future. After a long wait, the dreams of the people of Manikganj are now on the verge of being realized, and the entire district is looking forward to the next step in that dream.
