Highway blockade in Tentulia to protest sexual abuse of child, demand arrest and punishment

Guardians and local residents have formed a human chain and blocked the highway in protest of allegations of sexual abuse of a four-year-old child in Tentulia, Panchagarh. At that time, they demanded the immediate arrest of the accused and exemplary punishment.
The hour-long human chain and blockade program was held on the national highway in front of Rabindranath Smrani in Kalandiganj area of Tentulia upazila on Saturday (August 29) afternoon.
Demand for arrest of the accused
Local residents who participated in the human chain alleged that an attempt was made to sexually abuse a four-year-old child nine days ago by taking him to an empty house. They expressed anger that the accused, Sanwar Hossain (55), has not been arrested yet in this incident.
Guardians and local residents demand that the accused be arrested immediately and brought to justice, and if the allegations are proven after investigation, strict punishment should be ensured according to the law.
What happened
According to local sources, on August 22, a four-year-old child was allegedly taken to an empty room of a house in Taiyagach village of Shalbahan union in Tentulia upazila and sexually assaulted.
The child's father is reported to have filed a complaint under the Women and Children's Repression Prevention Act at Tentulia Model Police Station that night.
The complainants claim that after the incident, attempts were made to cover up the matter locally through compromise. Due to this, anger has arisen among the locals as the accused has not been arrested yet.
Police statement
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tentulia Model Police Station Laisur Rahman said that the accused will be arrested soon if the complaint is received.
Meanwhile, locals who participated in the human chain demanded that the child's safety be ensured, the incident be properly investigated and the accused be arrested soon.
