Risk of storms in coastal areas due to low-pressure system; Warning Signal No. 3 for four seaports

Gusty winds are likely to sweep across the country's coastal areas due to a low-pressure system formed in the Bay of Bengal. Consequently, Local Warning Signal No. 3 has been issued for the seaports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra.

This information was conveyed in a warning bulletin issued on Saturday (September 12) by the Storm Warning Center of the Department of Meteorology.

Low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal

The Department of Meteorology reported that a low-pressure area has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining regions. It is currently situated over the west-central Bay of Bengal (northwestward) and the adjacent coastal areas of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.

Additionally, the monsoon is moderately active over Bangladesh and strong over the north Bay of Bengal.

Warning Signal No. 3 for four seaports

Gusty winds may blow across the country's four seaports and coastal areas due to the low-pressure system. Therefore, Local Warning Signal No. 3 has been hoisted for the Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra seaports.

Fishing boats and trawlers in the north Bay of Bengal have been advised to operate cautiously while staying close to the coast until further notice.

Possibility of rain and thunderstorms in Dhaka

Meanwhile, the weather forecast for Dhaka and surrounding areas indicates that the sky may remain partly cloudy to temporarily cloudy over the six hours following 7:00 AM.

Light rain or thundershowers may occur during this period. Winds may blow from the south or southeast at speeds of 10 to 15 kilometers per hour.

Temperatures likely to remain unchanged

The Department of Meteorology stated that daytime temperatures in Dhaka are likely to remain largely unchanged during this time.

Overall, gusty winds and rain are expected in the country's coastal areas due to the low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal and the active monsoon. Therefore, vessels at seaports and in the north Bay of Bengal have been advised to remain cautious.
