Md. Shamsujjoha (38) received death threats while seeking return of ancestral property in Tarash, Sirajganj. He is the son of the deceased Abdul Halim of Lalua Majhira village in Saguna union of the upazila.
He said that he had filed a written complaint with Tarash police station on Saturday (October 18).
According to the complaint source, Shamsujjoha became an orphan after his father Abdul Halim died. At that time, his uncle and aunt took possession of the property left by his father. After becoming an adult, when Shamsujjoha asked for an account of the property, they gave him some land from his grandfather's share, but they did not return the land purchased by his father.
Later, it is mentioned in the complaint that his uncle Jasim Uddin fraudulently registered the said land in his own name. After learning about the matter, Shamsujjoha objected to the Assistant Commissioner (Land) office. After the investigation, the administration canceled Jasim Uddin's registration and ordered the registration in Shamsujoha's name.
Since then, the uncle and aunt became angry and threatened him with various threats and loss of life. The complaint states that they threatened - "If I go to the land, I will kill him and hide the body."
In addition, a local man named Shahidul Islam also threatened to take possession of the land by force. Shamsujoha and her family are suffering from insecurity ahead of the scheduled date of land measurement on October 20.
Shamsujoha said that she learned from the Kundail Land Office - according to the R.S. Khatian No. 269 and Dag No. 573 of Lalua Majhira Mouza, a total of 101 acres of land is registered in the name of her father Abdul Halim. When she got the documents in hand, she presented the matter to her uncle and aunt, they became even angrier and threatened her.
He has demanded that the administration take urgent measures to protect his ancestral property and ensure the safety of his family.
In this regard, Tarash Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ziaur Rahman said, “We have received a complaint. An investigation is underway. Earlier, the registration was done through fake documents, which were later cancelled through the gazette. We will investigate the matter impartially and take necessary legal action.”
