Miscreants hack journalist to death with a machete

Ruposhi Bangla Television's Netrokona district correspondent Lutfuzzaman Fakir was seriously injured in a machete attack by miscreants in Durgapur, Netrokona. The brutal attack took place on Monday (November 10) at around 2:40 pm near the wooden bridge in the Someshri River ghat area.
Eyewitnesses said that Lutfuzzaman Fakir was taking pictures of the wooden bridge built over the Someshri River. At that time, some miscreants suddenly came with a machete and attacked him indiscriminately. When Ruposhi Bangla Television's Durgapur Upazila correspondent Shajahan Sheikh, who was with him during the attack, tried to stop him, the miscreants threatened to attack him too. Hearing the screams, the attackers quickly fled the scene.
Later, locals rescued journalist Lutfuzzaman Fakir in a seriously injured condition and admitted him to the Durgapur Upazila Health Complex. The on-duty doctor, Dr. Anika said that the injured journalist has deep wounds in various parts of his body. After receiving primary treatment, he has been transferred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
The incident has created extreme anger and concern among the local journalist community. They have demanded that the attackers be identified quickly and brought to justice.
Durgapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahmudul Hasan said, "The police have been sent to the hospital after receiving the news of the incident. We have not received a written complaint yet. Appropriate legal action will be taken if we receive the complaint."
Locals said that Lutfuzzaman Fakir was recently in the news for publishing news about various irregularities and corruption. Initially, it is believed that he may have been attacked while performing his professional duties.
The journalist community demands that if the attackers are not arrested quickly and given exemplary punishment, journalist safety in the country will be questioned.
