Exceptional protest on the highway demanding approval of Rabindra University's DPP

The teachers, officials, employees and students of the university have held an exceptional cultural program on the Sirajganj-Pabna highway demanding the speedy approval of the Development Project Proposal (DPP) for the construction of a permanent campus of Rabindra University and its full implementation.

The program was held by blocking the highway in front of the university campus in Shahjadpur from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm on Wednesday (July 30). There, the students expressed their anger and protest through songs, poems and plays.

The protesters said that even though nine years have passed since the establishment of the university, the DPP has not been approved yet, as a result of which various problems have arisen in the education system. There is no accommodation system, no designated classrooms, adequate library or safe environment - all this is causing various sufferings to teachers and students.

The university teachers said, “We have presented all the information and evidence to the concerned department many times. When a project worth only Tk 519.5 crore is not getting approval despite fulfilling all the conditions, it has disappointed not only the university but also the people of Sirajganj.”

On July 26, the teachers, officials, employees and students started the movement by boycotting all the programs of ‘Rabindra University Day’.

They said that the movement will continue until the demands are met. In continuation of this, a silent procession and mass communication program have been announced from the university’s Academic Building-2 to the BSCIC bus stand at 10 am tomorrow (July 31, Thursday).

According to the statements of journalists and informed circles, it is believed that lack of priority and political apathy may be responsible for the decision to allocate such a small amount of money in the development budget.

The program was announced to end with a call to build the desired infrastructure of the university through the speedy approval of the DPP.
