Director Buchi Babu Sana's much-talked-about film Peddi has been in the midst of controversy even before its release. There has been a storm of criticism on social media over the presentation of the character of 'Achiyamma' played by Janhvi Kapoor in the film. It is alleged that the character has been shown unnecessarily attractive in the camera angles and dialogues of some scenes.
Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut has opened up in this regard. While promoting her new film Bharat Bhagya Vidhata, she said that she does not believe that any director or writer deliberately wants to present women as a commodity. According to her, cinema is a collaborative creative work, where if there is an objection to a scene, the actors have the opportunity to give their opinion.
Kangana said that sometimes the way a scene is imagined in the script, it can be presented differently on screen. Therefore, if there is an open discussion between the actors, director and those concerned during the shooting, it is possible to avoid misunderstandings or controversial presentations.
He says that once a film is made, the responsibility for its good or bad lies not only with the director, but with the entire team. Therefore, in the debate over the representation of women, the issue should not be solely blamed on the director, but should be seen as part of a collective creative process.
