All government and private banks in the country will be closed from May 25 to 31 on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha. As a result, all scheduled banks in the country will be open today (May 23) and tomorrow (May 24) before Eid.
As per the instructions of Bangladesh Bank, banking transactions will continue today and Sunday as part of holiday coordination. Customers will be able to conduct regular transactions from 10 am to 3 pm. However, ancillary banking activities will continue until 5 pm.
The Supervisory Data Management and Analytics Department (SDAD) of the central bank said that banking activities will continue in limited areas before Eid to pay salaries, bonuses and allowances to workers of the ready-made garment industry and to keep import-export activities running.
Limited transactions will be conducted in garment-related bank branches in Dhaka Metropolitan City, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Bhaluka, Narayanganj and Chittagong on May 25 and 26.
Besides, bank branches, sub-branches and booths located at seaports, land ports and airports will remain open 24 hours a day during the Eid holidays. Banking activities related to import and export will be conducted on a limited basis during other times except on Eid days.
Bank officers and employees performing duties during the holidays will receive additional allowances as per government rules, Bangladesh Bank has also said.
