First Friday after Eid: Fewer buyers in markets, chicken prices on the rise

The presence of buyers in the capital's markets was comparatively low on the first weekend after the Eid-ul-Azha holiday. However, although there was no major unrest in the daily commodities market, a rise in chicken prices was observed.
On Friday (June 5), a visit to Bou Bazar in East Rampura in the capital showed that although shops opened in the morning, the crowd of buyers was much less than on other Fridays. Traders say that many people have not yet returned to Dhaka after the Eid holiday, as a result, normal trading has not taken place in the market.
Broiler chicken is being sold at Tk 170 per kg in the market. Pakistani chicken is being sold at Tk 350 per kg. However, the prices are not known as many beef and mutton shops are closed.
In the fish market, pangasius and tilapia are being sold at Tk 200 per kg. Farmed koi are being sold at Tk 220, Rui at Tk 320, horn fish at Tk 320 and Mrigel fish at Tk 300 per kg.
There has been some relief in the egg market. A dozen brown eggs are being sold for 130 taka and a dozen white eggs for 120 taka, which is slightly less than before.
In the vegetable market, kachumukhi is being sold for 80 taka, radish for 40 taka, cucumber for 40 taka, bitter gourd for 80 taka, fenugreek for 40 taka, brinjal for 60 taka, rice for 50 taka and gourd for 60 taka.
Buyers said that the price of broiler chicken has increased by about 20 taka per kg after Eid. However, the price of eggs has decreased slightly.
Traders say that sales in the market have decreased compared to normal times as people have reduced their essential purchases after Eid.
