The proposed national budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 has announced several new initiatives to make the service sector modern and accessible. The Finance Minister said that the main goal of this plan is to reduce the suffering of citizens by integrating government and private services on a digital platform.
According to the new budget, a “single window” system will be introduced for starting a business and obtaining various approvals. Through this, all types of applications and approval processes can be completed on an online platform. The goal has been set to ensure services within a maximum of seven days of completion of the application.
There are also plans for major changes in the transport sector. It has been said that bus routes will be rearranged, electric buses will be introduced, skilled drivers will be trained and an integrated ticketing system will be introduced. In addition, initiatives will be taken to further expand the metro-centric transport network.
New benefits have also been announced for senior citizens. Those above the age of 65 will be able to travel by train for free and will get a 25 percent discount on metro fare. This is expected to reduce travel costs.
By strengthening the digital public infrastructure, a plan for a single ID system has also been included in the budget. As a result, it will be possible to access various government and private services, pay fees, register and verify information from a single platform.
An initiative has been taken to launch a “Probashi Card” for overseas and expatriate workers. This card will make it easier for them to store their information, receive government services and get welfare benefits.
There are also plans for digital transformation in electricity services. In addition to making new connections, bill payments and customer service easier online, smart grids and modern distribution systems will be developed.
A plan has been taken to automate the income tax and VAT audit process to bring transparency to the tax system. Taxpayers will be selected through risk-based software, so that harassment is reduced.
An initiative to expand day care centers at the government and private levels to increase women's employment has also been included in the budget. In the first phase, 20 and later 60 more modern day care centers will be established.
There are also plans to launch an education loan program for students to improve their education and skills, so that no one is deprived of higher education due to financial constraints.
Overall, the budget has given special emphasis on making the service sector more digital, easy and citizen-friendly.
