Death from ‘Love Bite’! Hickey given by lover takes teenager’s life

A ‘love bite’ or hickey given as a sign of love can sometimes be fatal—such a rare and tragic incident has occurred in Mexico City. It has been reported that a 17-year-old teenager died of a stroke due to a hickey given by his girlfriend, citing doctors.
It is known that a deep kiss on the teenager’s neck caused a blood clot to form under the skin. Later, the clot reached the brain through the body and blocked an important blood vessel. This caused the teenager to suffer a stroke. Although he was quickly taken to the hospital, it was not possible to save him in the end.
According to doctors, hickeys usually occur when small blood vessels burst due to pressure on the skin, creating a sore spot, which heals within a few days. However, excessive pressure on a sensitive area like the neck can damage larger blood vessels.
Experts say that the carotid artery in the neck supplies blood to the brain. If blood clots form in this area due to excessive pressure, it can cut off oxygen flow to the brain, which is known as ischemic stroke.
However, doctors have assured that such incidents are extremely rare. Although countless people suffer from hickeys every year, such accidents do not happen often. However, the risk may increase slightly if you apply excessive force or pressure for a long time, have a pre-existing blood clotting problem, or have weak blood vessels.
According to doctors, there are some common symptoms of stroke—sudden paralysis on one side of the body, slurred speech, severe headache, loss of balance, or trouble seeing. If these symptoms appear, it is important to seek medical attention immediately.
Experts say that excessive pressure or injury to sensitive parts of the body can sometimes pose serious risks. Therefore, awareness and caution can prevent such unwanted incidents.
