Is Pakistan's Army Chief the President? ISPR dispels rumors

Published: 02:29 6 August 2025
The country's military spokesman, ISPR, has directly rejected the news that Pakistan's Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir is going to become the president, calling it completely baseless and fabricated. In a recent interview with the British magazine 'The Economist', ISPR Director General Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chowdhury said that Asim Munir has no plans to become the president. This rumor is completely untrue and motivated.
Earlier, in July, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif had reacted to the same issue. He clearly said that the current President Asif Ali Zardari was not forced to resign and that Army Chief Asim Munir was trying to become the president - nothing like this has happened in reality. Rather, he said that the Prime Minister, the President and the Army Chief - these three are working together for the progress of Pakistan.
In addition, Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who is known to be close to the army leadership, said in a message on social media that the misleading information being spread about the President, Prime Minister and Army Chief is intentional. He claimed that the government knows who is behind this propaganda and action will be taken against them in due course.
In the interview, the ISPR Director General also issued a stern warning to India. He said that if India tries to carry out any new aggression, Pakistan will respond by entering India's interior. In his words, "The reaction will start from the east and the Pakistani army is capable of striking anywhere."
