World-renowned Islamic preacher Dr. Zakir Naik is coming to Dhaka in November. However, India wants him to be extradited as soon as he sets foot in Bangladesh from Malaysia. Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal made this comment to reporters on Thursday (October 30).

Zakir Naik was in India before 2016 and was known as a speaker at international Islamic events. However, during the Narendra Modi-led BJP government, he was booked for 'propagating hate speech' and multiple money laundering cases. At that time, his controlled channel Peace TV was shut down.

A journalist asked, "Can the Bangladesh government request that Zakir Naik be extradited to India after he comes to Bangladesh?" Randhir Jaiswal said, “Zakir Naik is a fugitive. He is wanted in India. So we hope that wherever he goes, the country concerned will take appropriate action against him and consider our security concerns.”

This message from India has brought Zakir Naik’s upcoming visit to Bangladesh into a new political context.
