Iran executes civil defense official for espionage

A civil defense official convicted of spying for Israel has been executed in Iran.
The country's official judiciary outlet, Mizan News, reported the news on Wednesday, citing Qatar-based Al Jazeera.
According to the report, Mehdi Farid, a senior civil defense official, was found guilty of spying for Israel's Mossad intelligence agency. Iran's Supreme Court later upheld his death sentence and the execution was carried out based on that verdict.
Mizan News reported that during the investigation, Farid confessed to trying to smuggle sensitive information to Israeli intelligence. This information included the structure of government institutions, interior building designs, security systems of defense installations and important personnel documents.
The incident has sparked renewed discussion in the context of ongoing tensions between Iran and Israel.
