The local administration has sealed 15 mosque sites in Arunachal Pradesh. The concerned authorities have said that this step has been taken on allegations of illegal settlement and unauthorized religious establishments.
According to local sources and the Indian media NDTV report, there have been allegations that various religious establishments were being built without permission in some areas of Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh, for a long time. Local tribal organizations have raised protests and objections on this issue.
In view of this, the state government and the district administration jointly conducted a survey. A total of 15 mosque sites were identified as unauthorized in the survey. Later, 12 sites were sealed in the first phase and 3 more sites were sealed later on administrative orders.
Government officials said that action has been taken against these establishments following the legal process. In addition, surveillance will be further strengthened to prevent illegal construction and encroachment in the future.
However, this incident has created controversy at the local level. Indigenous organizations claim that they have long been concerned about demographic changes and illegal settlements in the area. On the other hand, critics say that such a move could further increase social tensions in the area.
Meanwhile, the state administration said that all necessary measures have been taken to control the situation and maintain law and order.
