Iranian authorities have changed the schedule for the state funeral and funeral of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Instead of the previously announced time, the event will be held in the last week of June or early July.
Tehran Mayor Alireza Zakani said that the new schedule has been set taking into account religious and mourning issues. Earlier, the state funeral was planned to be held at the beginning of the month of Muharram, but it has been changed.
According to the new decision, the funeral and state funeral will be held after the first ten days of Muharram. The possible date may be set for any date between June 26 and July 5.
According to information published in Iranian state media, a large number of people are expected to participate in the event. Authorities estimate that several million people may participate in the state funeral.
It is worth noting that Ali Khamenei took over as Iran's supreme leader after the death of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in 1989. After leading the country for more than three decades, he was killed on February 28 of this year. His death has had a profound impact on Iran's political and religious arena.
The state funeral is being seen as one of the largest mourning ceremonies in Iran's recent history.
