Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that it has become difficult to maintain direct contact with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
However, he said that Mojtaba Khamenei’s presence serves as an important force for Iran.
Pezeshkian made these remarks in an interview published on the website of the Iranian presidential office on Wednesday (August 5).
Iran in difficult circumstances
In the interview, Pezeshkian highlighted the current situation in Iran and said that the country is currently going through difficult times due to banking sanctions, restrictions on foreign transactions, a shipping crisis and ongoing conflicts.
He said that it is important to maintain the country’s leadership and stability even in such a situation.
Regarding Mojtaba Khamenei’s leadership
Pezeshkian said that it is claimed that Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in an attack by the United States and Israel on February 28.
Then, in early March, Ali Khamenei's son Mojtaba Khamenei was elected as the new Supreme Leader by the Assembly of Experts, he said.
According to the Iranian president, Mojtaba Khamenei's leadership is playing an important role for the country in the current situation.
Discussions on the Strait of Hormuz
Meanwhile, it is reported that talks are underway between Iran and Oman to resume commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Pezeshkian said that the reopening of this waterway depends on the implementation of the US commitment.
Earlier, shipping in the Strait of Hormuz was disrupted due to tensions with the US and Israel. In response, the US attacked Iranian targets and later, Iran launched missile attacks on US bases in the Middle East, according to various reports.
