NID will not tolerate any laxity in service delivery: EC

The Election Commission (EC) has directed the field officials to give time to the applicant to submit information or documents in resolving the application for amendment of National Identity Card (NID) of Mahbub Alam Talukdar. Along with this, the organization also said that NID will not tolerate any relaxation in providing services. In the meantime, the instructions have been sent to the field level.
It is known that such a decision was taken in a recently held meeting. Then, in a written directive, the NID Director General said that the number of C category applications (more complex applications) is increasing. The Regional Election Officer is trying to reduce the C category. However, the provision of service should be ensured with utmost importance regarding corrections. In this case, the applicant should be given time to submit more documents and investigate and settle the applications sincerely.
Meanwhile, EC Secretary Shafiul Azim told the officials in a directive that all the officials should be present at their workplaces on time and provide the services desired by the people. Any irregularity or laxity in service delivery will not be tolerated. At present, as there are no election-related activities, arrangements have to be made to dispose of pending applications for various types of amendments. The office premises of every office should be kept clean and made public service friendly.
Besides, he also instructed to display and publicize the list of necessary documents for new voters, revision of national identity card, cooperation of local press club and other media.
On the other hand, to facilitate the NID service, the meeting of the District and Upazila Development Coordinating Committee to highlight the related issues, to ensure service delivery in these offices with transparency and efficiency, to monitor the subordinates by the higher authority, and to appreciate the good work, the EC Secretary said.
