Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has announced that legal action will be taken against police and government officials who have played controversial roles in the anti-discrimination student movement and other issues. Those involved will be arrested as part of this process before August 5.
He told reporters after visiting the Ansar and VDP headquarters around 11 am today.
He said that the process of identifying police officials involved in controversial activities and bringing them under the law has begun. He said, “The officials against whom video footage and information evidence is available are being arrested. Two-one people are being arrested every day. Matiur and Chhagal Matiur were arrested today. Others like him will also be arrested.”
The Home Affairs Advisor further said, "Many have covered their faces. They will be brought out one by one. From constables to DCs, all those accused of shooting will be brought under the law."
He mentioned that an investigation is also underway regarding the posting, transfer and promotion of controversial officers. Necessary action will be taken based on its results. Thanking the media in this regard, he said, "You have done correct and transparent journalism. The responsibility you are carrying out against the propaganda of neighboring countries is commendable. However, there is a need to further increase investigative journalism."
The Home Affairs Advisor urged the media to submit the list of controversial police officers to the police headquarters.
