The government has decided to officially stop the sale of agricultural products, including vegetables, in the open market, said Finance Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed. He gave this information after the meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Government Procurement at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
In response to journalists' questions, the Finance Advisor said, "Such activities do not have much impact on price control, so they will not be continued."
Last October, a pilot project was launched in Dhaka to sell agricultural products, including vegetables, at subsidized prices for low-income people. Under this project, agricultural products were being sold in 20 areas of the capital every day. The government's Department of Agricultural Marketing implemented this initiative. It was offering 10 products in a package of 650 taka, including: eggs (one dozen), potatoes (one kg), onions (one kg), papaya (one kg), pumpkin (one piece), bitter gourd (one kg), gourd (one), kachurmukhi (one kg), and green chili (one kg).
