Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said, "We are monitoring top terrorists who have already been granted bail. They will be arrested if they commit acts against the state and society."
He told reporters after visiting Dhaka Central Jail on Sunday morning. He added, "Theft and robbery have increased in the country, while criminals are also being caught. There is no shortage of police, but there is a lack of initiative. However, various organizations including the police are working tirelessly to improve the situation."
At the time, he inaugurated the emergency service (hotline) number 09612021690 on the premises of Dhaka Central Jail. Through this number, information regarding the location of the prisoner, date of appearance, date of meeting, date of phone conversation, physical condition of the prisoner and release on parole can be found.
Present at the event were Inspector General of Prisons Brigadier General Syed Md. Motaher Hossain, Additional Inspector General of Prisons Colonel Mohammad Mostafa Kamal, Deputy Inspector General of Prisons (Dhaka Division) Md. Jahangir Kabir, Senior Jail Superintendent of Dhaka Central Jail Suraiya Akhter, and District AKAM Masum, among others.
In addition, he said that around 700 prisoners who escaped from various prisons during the student-public anti-discrimination movement are still at large, and efforts are underway to arrest them.
