After a long wait, the process of converting Bogra Municipality into a city corporation has begun. To this end, Deputy Commissioner Hosna Afroza issued a public notice on Sunday (April 27). Through this, Bogra is going to become one of the largest city corporations in the country.
Deputy Commissioner Hosna Afroza mentioned in the public notice that as per the instructions of the Local Government Department, initiatives have been taken to establish Bogra City Corporation from the designated mouzas included in the existing Bogra municipal area as per Sub-rule (2) of Rule-5 of the Local Government (City Corporation) Establishment Rules, 2010.
He further said that if anyone has any opinion or objection in this regard, it should be submitted in writing to the Deputy Commissioner within 30 days of the publication of the public notice. No further opinions or objections will be accepted after the stipulated time.
The Deputy Commissioner said, 'If objections are submitted, they will be resolved within 15 days. Then the report will be sent to the local government department. After scrutiny and consideration of the legal aspects, the government will issue a final ordinance to form the Bogra City Corporation.
According to Bogra District Administration sources, the Bogra Municipality was established in 1876 and was upgraded to a first-class municipality in 1981. In 2000, the area of the municipality was 14.76 square kilometers, which was increased to 69.56 square kilometers in 2004. Currently, the municipality consists of 21 wards and has a population of about 1 million.
The people of Bogra have been demanding that their municipality be upgraded to a city corporation for many years. Based on that demand, Deputy Commissioner Hosna Afroza proposed the formation of a city corporation at the District Commissioners' Conference in February this year. Later, the formal process began with the consent of the government's policymakers.
It is expected that Bogra will reach a new threshold of development through this decision.
