A court has sent former MP and Awami League leader Momtaz Begum, who was arrested in a murder case filed at the capital's Mirpur Model Police Station, on a 4-day remand. The police applied for remand, citing the need to interrogate her in the investigation of the case filed over the violent incidents that occurred during the anti-discrimination student movement.
She was produced before the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court at 2:17 pm on Tuesday (May 13). During the hearing, she was produced before Magistrate Md. Jewel Rana's court.
The investigating officer of the case, Mirpur Model Police Station Sub-Inspector Monirul Islam, applied for a seven-day remand. On the other hand, the lawyers for the accused applied for the remand to be cancelled and bail granted. After hearing both sides, the court granted a 4-day remand.
The remand application said that preliminary evidence of Momtaz Begum's involvement has been found in the on-site investigation of the incident and based on various information and data.
