Tareq Rahman at mother's funeral

BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia's eldest son and BNP acting chairman Tareq Rahman attended the funeral. The funeral was held at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital and lakhs of people from different classes and professions of the country, including party leaders and activists.
Earlier, Khaleda Zia's body was brought to the funeral venue as per state protocol. When the freezer van carrying the body wrapped in the red-green national flag reached the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, an atmosphere of mourning descended among the crowd present.
The funeral was attended by local and foreign political figures, diplomats and dignitaries from different classes and professions, including Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. In addition, the entire area turned into a sea of people in the presence of the general public.
The formalities for the start of the funeral began at around 2:45 pm. At the beginning, BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan gave a brief account of Begum Khaleda Zia's life and political struggle.
It is worth noting that Begum Khaleda Zia passed away early Tuesday morning while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital after a long illness. The death of this three-time former Prime Minister and one of the country's most influential politicians has cast a shadow of mourning at home and abroad.
