The guests present at the civic mourning meeting organized in memory of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia at the South Plaza of the Parliament Building in the capital witnessed a significant scene. On Friday (January 16) afternoon, when BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir arrived there during the mourning meeting, the party's acting chairman Tariq Rahman stood up after seeing him. He then shook hands with Mirza Fakhrul and exchanged greetings. The pictures and videos of that moment quickly went viral on social media.
At that time, it was seen that as soon as Tariq Rahman stood up, Mirza Fakhrul repeatedly requested him to sit down. At one stage, he himself stepped forward, held Tariq Rahman's hand and made him sit down again.
This scene was particularly discussed by the invited guests and citizens present at the mourning meeting. Many see the matter as a sign of Tarique Rahman's respect for senior party leaders and a symbol of mutual respect, camaraderie and unity among the top leadership of BNP.
The political leaders were present as invited guests rather than speaking on stage at this condolence meeting organized by civil society.
