The Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (Chhatra Dal)-backed panel has announced an 8-point manifesto for the Central Students' Union (Chaksu) elections of Chittagong University. The manifesto was officially announced by the panel's Vice President (VP) candidate, Sajjad Hossain Hridoy at the university's intellectual square at 3:30 pm on Wednesday (October 8). Chhatra Dal Central General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir, Vice President Ziauddin Baset, and other leaders of the central and branch Chhatra Dal were present at the event.
The announced manifesto states that their main goal is to develop Chittagong University as a modern, safe and student-friendly campus. For this, priority will be given to improving the quality of education and research, ensuring quality food and accommodation, and ensuring overall safety and legal support for students. In addition, a promise was made to create a safe campus for female students, to protect women's health protection, and to create a gender-sensitive environment in educational institutions.
The manifesto further states that the university's transportation system will be improved and expanded, and quality healthcare services and a healthy environment will be ensured. Literature, culture, sports, and recreational activities will be made more rich and vibrant, so that students get opportunities for self-development outside the curriculum. In addition, the manifesto mentions that the Chhatra Dal panel will work to increase career-building skills, IT training, and create employment opportunities.
While announcing the manifesto, Sajjad Hossain Hridoy said, "Students were waiting with interest to know our manifesto. Before preparing the manifesto, we visited various departments and residential halls and took the opinions of students. Our 8-point manifesto has been formulated based on their needs and thoughts. The thoughts of the students are the basis of our manifesto, and we will work all-out to implement that promise."
He further said, “We believe that Chaksu is a symbol of students’ democratic rights and participation. Therefore, through this election, we want to form a leadership that will truly speak for the students and protect their interests.”
A festive atmosphere prevails on the university campus following the announcement of this manifesto by the Chhatra Dal-backed panel. Many students say that if the promises in the manifesto are implemented, the overall education and housing system of the university will improve further. With the start of the election campaign, the panel leaders have now started campaigning by visiting various departments and residential halls to seek the support of students.
