Dr Tofail Ahmed's death mourned by Jamaat and research world

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has expressed deep sorrow over the death of local government expert, researcher and head of the Local Government Reform Commission, Professor Dr. Tofail Ahmed.
In a condolence message on October 9, the party's Secretary General and former Member of Parliament, Professor Mia Golam Parwar, said, "Professor Dr. Tofail Ahmed was one of the pioneers of research on the development and reform of the local government system in Bangladesh. He served as the head of the Local Government Reform Commission with outstanding wisdom, skill and dedication."
Professor Parwar further noted, "The constructive and realistic proposals he gave to make the local government structure more effective and accountable will have a positive impact on the country's policy-making process. With his death, the country has lost an honest, wise and dedicated researcher."
He said, Professor Tofail Ahmed was an established researcher and analyst on local government and cooperatives. He was dedicated to establishing administrative decentralization, democratic governance and accountable local government throughout his life.
Professor Parwar mentioned that his nearly 20 books on local government and politics in both Bengali and English and numerous articles published in local and foreign journals and newspapers will enrich the research and knowledge of future generations.
He also said that Professor Tofail Ahmed also served as the Local Governance Advisor to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bangladesh.
It is worth noting that Professor Dr. Tofail Ahmed was a professor and syndicate member of Chittagong University. Expressing deep grief over his death, the Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General said, “I pray for the forgiveness of his soul and extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved family, colleagues and well-wishers.”
