Eight political parties, including Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, are holding protests and processions in all divisional cities and metropolitan cities of the country, including Dhaka, on Saturday (October 25) demanding five points, including a referendum.
The participating parties include Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Khelafat Majlis, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, Bangladesh Nejame Islam Party, Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan, Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (JAGPA) and Bangladesh Development Party (BDP).
The eight-party alliance announced today's program at a joint press conference held at the National Press Club on October 20. At the press conference, the top leaders of the alliance said that if their five-point demands are not met, a larger movement will be launched across the country from next month.
The demands include forming a national government through a referendum, ensuring people's voting rights, providing equal opportunities to political parties, releasing imprisoned leaders and activists, and establishing a just economy.
The alliance said in a statement, “Everyone’s participation is essential in this movement to establish people’s rights and restore democracy. The people of the country want change, so everyone is being called upon to join the peaceful movement.”
The parties held a protest rally in the capital on October 20 as part of the previously announced program. Similar protests will be held simultaneously in the divisional cities of the country on Saturday. In addition, Jamaat and its like-minded political parties will also hold protests in district cities on October 27.
The alliance leaders said that in addition to continuing the movement peacefully, a new program will be announced keeping in mind the demands of the people. They hope that if the government does not respond positively, this movement will spread across the country on a large scale.
