A huge public rally was held in support of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) nomination hopeful from Narail-2 (94) constituency in the upcoming national parliament election, District BNP General Secretary and former Upazila Chairman Alhaj Monirul Islam.
A large number of BNP leaders and activists and the general public participated in the public rally organized at Malibagh intersection in Narail Sadar Upazila at 3 pm on Sunday (November 10).
The rally was presided over by Narail Sadar Upazila BNP President Bir Muktijoddha Mostafizur Rahman Alek and moderated by Upazila BNP General Secretary Mozahidur Rahman Palash.
Narail District BNP General Secretary and former Upazila Chairman Alhaj Monirul Islam was present as the chief guest.
Narail Municipality BNP President Telayet Hossain, General Secretary Khandaker Fasiar Rahman, District Jubo Dal General Secretary Sayedat Kabir Rubel, District Volunteer Dal Convener Manjurul Sayed Babu, and leaders of various district and upazila level organizations spoke as special guests.
Speaking as the chief guest at the rally, Monirul Islam said,
“I have been working for the party for many years, responding to Tarique Rahman’s call. My wife was undergoing treatment in Chennai at the time, yet I left her and returned to the country to fulfill the party’s responsibilities. As a result, my wife had a miscarriage, and I am still childless. I have been working for the party for 39 years, have endured imprisonment and oppression. Now, at this last stage of my life, I have only one hope—the party’s nomination.”
He further said, “We have sacrificed our entire lives for the party, but suddenly those who come from outside the party and want to get nominated, the people of Narail-2 constituency will not accept. The people have love for the sheaf of rice, we will uphold the symbol of the people.”
In his closing speech, Sadar Upazila BNP President, freedom fighter Mostafizur Rahman Alek said, “BNP’s nomination for Narail-2 constituency must definitely go to Alhaj Monirul Islam. He is a dedicated, selfless and capable leader towards the party. That is also the demand of the people.”
At the end of the rally, the leaders and activists present made the entire Malibagh intersection area ring with the slogan “May the sheaf of rice win”.
At that time, thousands of BNP and affiliated organizations activists from different upazilas of Narail district participated in the rally.
