Former BNP MP from Mymensingh-8 (Ishwarganj) constituency Shah Nurul Kabir Shaheen has resigned from the party. He announced his withdrawal from all party activities through a press conference at the Ishwarganj Press Club on Sunday (December 28) at 12 noon.

Shaheen said that he had been associated with BNP politics since his student days and was elected as a member of parliament after receiving nomination in 2001. However, he was disappointed when the party did not participate in the 2014 election and was deprived of candidacy in 2018 due to alliance reasons. Even then, he continued party activities by organizing leaders and activists during the party's difficult times.

He said that he had hoped that the party would give him nomination in the upcoming 13th National Parliament election. But due to the reshuffle of nominations and no consideration from the party, he decided to resign. The resignation letter has been sent by post to the party's acting chairman.

Shaheen told reporters that he has received proposals from various parties to seek nomination. However, no decision has been made yet. He may also contest the election as an independent candidate based on public opinion on the ground.
