No one will be allowed to become the new Sheikh Hasina: Sarjis Alam

Published: 12:29 9 July 2026
Sarjis Alam, the chief coordinator of the northern region of the National Citizen Party, said that no one will be allowed to become the new Sheikh Hasina in the future Bangladesh. He said that the culture of keeping any person or party in power beyond accountability cannot continue.
He said these things at a road meeting organized after a march in the bus stand area of Kalihati Upazila Sadar, Tangail on Wednesday afternoon.
Sarjis Alam said that an idea was created in the past - everyone can make mistakes, but the top leadership is always good. Such a political mentality will not be allowed to continue in the future Bangladesh.
Addressing Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, he said that if the party's district, upazila and divisional level leaders and activists are involved in extortion, syndicates, drug trade, land grabbing or oppression of the common people, then the top leadership will have to take responsibility. There is no way to avoid responsibility.
Addressing the people, Sarjis said that good leaders and good workers should be by their side. Those who do not extort, do not grab land, and do not abuse power should be supported.
He also said that voting is the biggest force in determining the future of the country. The desired change is not possible if you blindly become a slave to a party or symbol. Therefore, the people should give importance to conscience over party loyalty.
Addressing the law enforcement agencies, Sarjis Alam said that the glory and professionalism of all law enforcement agencies, including the Bangladesh Police, must be restored. A party may try to use these institutions to stay in power. However, the members of the force must maintain their conscience and professionalism.
NCP joint convener and MP Atiqur Rahman Mujahid, joint convener Sarwar Tushar, Dhaka divisional organizing secretary Saifullah Haider, Tangail district branch convener Kamruzzaman Shaon and member secretary Masudur Rahman, along with local leaders, spoke at the road meeting.
Mehedi Hasan was introduced as a candidate for the post of chairman in Kalihati in the upcoming Upazila Parishad elections at the rally. Later, NCP leaders held a march and road meeting in Bhuiyanpur, Tangail.
