After losing against New Zealand at home, India also lost the series in Australia. After losing two consecutive Test series, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has now taken a new decision. In a notification, a new 10-point guideline has been released, as a result of which cricketers will no longer be able to spend time with family members on foreign tours like before. Cricketers have now been instructed to only go to the field with the team and return to the hotel.
Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has given his opinion on this. He said, "As far as I have read, 9 out of 10 rules are the same as before. These were there before, such as restrictions on traveling and practicing with family. I don't understand who changed them and when."
He also said, "The players' wives are not responsible for losing the series against Australia. In fact, there was no necessary discussion on the matter. We lost due to poor cricket and batting problems."
Harbhajan said, "We still had a rule like our time, when players never left the hotel before the end of a match. Players like Sachin Tendulkar or Sourav Ganguly never left a week before."
Also, if the new rule says that cricketers cannot follow the instructions, they will have to inform their coach Gautam Gambhir in advance. Harbhajan Singh has also criticized this rule and says, "The head coach's job is on the field. Administrative matters should be left to the BCCI."
Thus, amidst the controversy over the board's new instructions for the Indian cricket team, Harbhajan Singh has raised some important questions in the light of their past experience.
