A storm of protest has erupted at Dhaka University over the exclusion of Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL. The Salimullah Muslim (SM) Hall Sangsad of Dhaka University has taken a strong stand in protest of this incident. An indefinite ban has been imposed on broadcasting and watching all types of cricket matches organized on Indian soil in the auditorium of the hall.
The decision was announced in a notification issued by the SM Hall Sangsad on Saturday (January 3). The notification is signed by the Vice President of the Hall Sangsad Md. Zayedul Haque, General Secretary Shadman Abdullah and all the leaders of the Sangsad. The Hall Sangsad said that this decision is part of a protest and moral stance, which brings forward the demand for fairness and professionalism in sports.
The notification said that the exclusion of internationally renowned bowler Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL has seriously questioned the fairness and professional conduct of cricket. According to the student representatives of the Hall Sangsad, such a decision by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is against the spirit of sports and is a denigration of not just a player, but a country's sports arena.
As a protest against this injustice, it has been decided that no Indian cricket match will be broadcast or shown on television at the SM Hall Auditorium. In addition, the notification has called for utmost caution and discouragement in the purchase of Indian sports equipment.
The Hall Sangsad also made an important request to the sports officials of Bangladesh in their statement. They believe that it is time to reconsider whether Bangladesh should continue to participate in any kind of sports competition organized on Indian soil. A firm decision has been called for in this regard to protect national interests and the dignity of the sports arena.
There is also intense anger and dissatisfaction among the general students on the Dhaka University campus over the Mustafiz issue. Many students feel that this decision of the SM Hall Sangsad can become a protest example. It is believed that its impact may spread to other halls and student organizations.
