The impact of Cyclone 'Finjal' located in the southwest Bay of Bengal has begun. It is moving northwestward and is currently located in the same area. As a result, the seaports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been asked to show distant warning signal number two. Due to its impact, rain may occur in three divisions, the Meteorological Office said.
This information was given in a special bulletin issued by Meteorological Department meteorologist Md. Omar Farooq on Saturday. It said that Cyclone Finjal was located 1650 kilometers southwest of Chittagong Seaport, 1605 kilometers southwest of Cox's Bazar Seaport, 1505 kilometers southwest of Mongla Seaport and 1515 kilometers southwest of Payra Seaport at 6 am today. It is likely to move further west-northwestwards and cross the north Tamil Nadu coast by Saturday afternoon.
He also said that the maximum sustained wind speed within 54 km of the cyclone centre is 62 kmph, increasing to 88 kmph in gusts or squalls. The sea is very rough in the area near the cyclone centre. In addition, all fishing boats and trawlers in the north Bay of Bengal and deep sea have been asked to remain close to the coast until further notice.
