The Meteorological Department has said that the minimum temperature in the country in January may drop to four degrees Celsius. As a result, there is a risk of multiple cold waves in different parts of the country, which may further increase the intensity of the winter.
Director of the Meteorological Department Md. Mominul Islam said that a total of five cold waves may blow in the country in January. Out of these, two to three cold waves may be mild to moderate, where the temperature will be between eight to ten degrees or six to eight degrees Celsius. In addition, one to two cold waves may be moderate to severe, where the temperature may drop to six to eight degrees or four to six degrees Celsius.
He also said that the average day and night temperatures are likely to remain fairly normal in January. However, moderate to dense fog may fall in various areas including river basins and lowlands of the country from midnight to morning. There is also a possibility of light to moderate fog in other areas. On some days, this fog may last until noon.
The Meteorological Department said that due to the dense fog, the difference in day and night temperatures may decrease, making the feeling of cold even greater. This may increase the health risks especially for children, the elderly and the sick.
The forecast also said that there is no possibility of any cyclone or deep depression forming in the Bay of Bengal in January. At the same time, normal water flow will continue in the country's major rivers. In January, the country's average daily evaporation will be between 1.50 and 3.50 millimeters and the average sunshine duration will be between 3.50 and 5.50 hours.
Keeping in mind the possibility of cold waves, the Meteorological Department has advised the general public to prepare for winter in advance.
