Israel's finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, has outlined a plan to expand the borders of the Jewish state in a recently released documentary, which has caused widespread reactions in the international arena. The documentary was released under the title 'In Israel: Ministers of', produced by Arte Reportage, a French-German news magazine. In it, he expressed hope that Israel's future borders would extend to the Jordan River.
Smotrich also claimed that the future state of Israel could include large parts of the Palestinian territories as well as Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Syria.
Smotrich's comments have sparked international criticism. He said in the documentary that Jewish religious beliefs call for the establishment of Greater Israel, whose borders would stretch from the Nile River in Egypt to the Euphrates River in Iraq.
The doctrine of 'Greater Israel' is mainly claimed by the Zionist Jews, where Israel includes large parts of Syria including Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Saudi Arabia as part of the land described in the Holy Bible. Israel's Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gavir also supports the same doctrine in the documentary.
Israeli journalist Oded Yannon supports this theory, saying that according to the vision of Theodore Herzl, the founder of Judaism, Israel will be made up of large parts of Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Iraq and Saudi Arabia.
