Actress Angelina Jolie appeared at the premiere of her new film ‘Dog’ at the San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain. While talking to reporters, she expressed deep concern and disappointment about the current situation in her country.
Jolie said, “I don’t recognize my country anymore.” Referring to the threat to freedom of speech and the limitation of people’s personal freedoms in the United States, she said, “Anything that limits people’s personal expression and freedom or creates division is terribly dangerous.”
When asked about her biggest fear as an artist and citizen, Jolie said, “I love my country, but now I don’t recognize my country. We are all going through a difficult time together. We have to speak in moderation. Because these are dark times, not just for Americans, but for all of us.”
The film ‘Couture’ centers on an American female filmmaker who struggles to make a name for herself in the Parisian fashion world. She tries to rebuild herself and her dreams during a dark moment in her life. The film was directed by French director Alice Vinoucou and premiered at the Toronto Film Festival on September 7.
Jolie’s appearance at the San Sebastian Film Festival and her comments on patriotism have caused a stir in the entertainment and social circles of the United States. Her statement also provides an important indication in the context of the country’s current political and social divisions.
