Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted a post on social media X (formerly Twitter) on the occasion of December 16, 1971, Victory Day. But in this post, he did not mention the liberation war or victory of Bangladesh.

Modi wrote, "On Victory Day, we remember those brave soldiers, whose indomitable courage and sacrifice enabled India to achieve a historic victory in 1971." He also mentioned, "Their determination and selfless service have saved our country and created a proud moment in our history."

He said, "This day is a day to pay humble tribute to their valor and remember their unparalleled morale. Their heroic story continues to inspire generations of Indians even today."

Incidentally, last year too, Modi had claimed December 16 as India's victory. There was a huge backlash in Bangladesh over that post. Political parties and the common people strongly criticized Modi's statement.

Analysts believe that such a statement is controversial in terms of the sensitivity of Bangladesh-India relations and that it presents the history of the liberation war of the two countries in a different way.
