Law enforcement agencies have arrested at least 62 people, including former US soldiers, during a protest in Washington, DC, to protest the ongoing war against Iran. The incident took place at the Cannon House office building on Monday (April 20), US media outlet The Hill reported.
Former military personnel and their family members participated in the protest, organized by veterans' organizations. US Capitol Police arrested at least 62 people during the protest. Some of those arrested include people with disabilities.
The protesters gathered in the rotunda of the Cannon Building and observed a moment of silence with red tulips in memory of the Iranians killed in the US attack. At the time, they were seen holding banners reading 'Stop the Iran War'.
In a video circulating on social media, the protesters were seen conducting a symbolic flag-folding ceremony. Through this, they paid tribute to the 13 US soldiers who died in the ongoing war and chanted anti-war slogans.
At one point, the Capitol Police arrested the protesters, tied them up, and removed them from the building.
It should be noted that since the war began on February 28, there has been growing discontent across the United States. Protests have intensified, especially among former military members, in the context of the casualties of US soldiers and the humanitarian disaster.
