Saudi Arabia seeks Israeli intelligence assistance to tackle Houthi crisis: Report

Saudi Arabia is discussing intelligence cooperation with Israel to address recent Houthi attacks and regional security crises. International media reports indicate that talks regarding enhanced security cooperation between the two nations are underway, facilitated by US Central Command (CENTCOM).

According to The Jerusalem Post, Saudi Arabia and Israel are discussing the possibility of increasing intelligence sharing through the mediation of CENTCOM. These discussions gained momentum following a meeting between Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and CENTCOM chief Admiral Brad Cooper.

The primary objective of this cooperation is to provide Saudi Arabia with information regarding Houthi military positions, troop deployments, and potential future actions. Reports note that the Houthis have recently intensified attacks on Saudi Arabia's energy infrastructure and various border areas.

Security concerns for Saudi Arabia have mounted due to attacks targeting critical facilities, including oil pipelines and pumping stations. Simultaneously, there is growing anxiety regarding the safety of maritime traffic through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and surrounding vital sea lanes.

Reports also indicate that Saudi Arabia has sought assistance from the United Kingdom to bolster the security of its maritime routes and oil infrastructure. Given the critical importance of the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb region to international trade and energy transport, the issue has transcended regional concerns to gain international significance.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has clarified its stance on defense cooperation with Saudi Arabia. Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Asif stated that the relevant defense arrangements are primarily defensive in nature and do not facilitate offensive operations against other nations.

This clarification sparked renewed discussion regarding Pakistan's potential military role in the Houthi crisis. Amidst this backdrop, the prospect of intelligence cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Israel has come to the fore.

Saudi Arabia and Israel do not currently maintain formal diplomatic relations. However, international observers note that the security interests of both nations have converged in several areas, largely driven by the activities of Iran and Iranian-backed groups.

Discussions are also ongoing regarding Saudi Arabia's civilian nuclear program and the potential terms for normalizing relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel, a process mediated by the United States.

In the current climate, the exchange of intelligence regarding Houthi military activities has emerged as the primary area for potential cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Israel.
